Portrait Saturday was a great day with our superb model David decked out in a striking retro striped shirt, yellow cravat and tight burgundy hipsters, he was an inspiration and you can see a gallery of all the work on my blog.
I had a great surface to work over with colours from the previous paintings sneaking through here and there. You can see the earlier versions below.
I started with a bright yellow Japlac enamel ground, in terms of conservation probably not the best decision but the fast drying enamel reacted in all sorts of interesting ways with the thick oil paint. Inevitably there will be cracks but to be honest the paint won't drop off so who cares - after seeing Keifer's work, cracks almost seem obligatory!
